About Me

Mariela Murdocco is a multimedia journalist who has been nominated for five Emmy Awards. Her passion for the visual arts led her to begin a career in photography in New York City in 2002.

She began her photography career photographing concerts for the media, besides children and performers in the entertainment industry for the YM & YWHA in Manhattan and the Jewish Community Center in Tenafly, N.J. For six years she has created audition headshots that have launched hundreds of child performers’ careers as actors, musicians, singers, models and dancers for the JCC, as well as  candids and group photos for summer camps in upstate New York for the YM & YWHA.

She has documented hundreds of family events, including weddings, quinceañeras, baptisms, communions, birthday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs and smash-cake sessions, as well as corporate events such as CEO gatherings (NBC), behind-the-scenes film productions (Telemundo Network), educational panels, exhibitions, marketing events (Lexus) and conferences.

As a specialty, she has perfected the art of photographing newborns. Feeling a deep connection to the miracle of life, she has led the way in innovating both studio and natural-light techniques to achieve magical, artistic images of babies in hospitals (under contract with Holy Name Hospital and Valley Hospital), at home and in the studio.

She has acquired deep knowledge of  newborns’ behavior and well-being in hospitals, including the newborn intensive-care unit. Her experience and sensibility allow her to pose them easily while calming them down, transforming a small hospital room or home into a beautiful studio setting.

She also specializes in branding photography for clients who need to enhance images of their professional success and/or products. She has worked with professionals in medicine, business, sports, the performing arts and gastronomy.

Producing unique and timeless portraits has always been her passion. A perfectionist, she is a master of capturing a subject’s soul and personality. While she produces much of her work in studio settings and locations in the tri-state area using portable strobe lighting and studio equipment, she prefers natural light in natural surroundings.

Mariela has also worked as a reporter, anchor, videographer and TV producer for Consumer Reports TV, Telemundo 47, NBC, News 12, The NY Daily News, The Jersey Journal, The Huffington Post, CNN, The Guardian, Fox News and Banda Oriental.  As a reporter and photographer for The Associated Press, she published her photos worldwide. She has interviewed, photographed, and produced  TV shows and segments on hundreds of celebrities, performing artists, politicians, personalities and concert artists.

She has traveled the world capturing architecture, landscape and the wonders of nature, with a fascination for wildlife and a special love of macrophotography.

In 2002 she learnt darkroom techniques and started developing her own black-and-white prints in the bathroom of her Manhattan apartment, where she not only made her own prints but also fully developed rolls of films, achieving the whole chemical process without the use of a laboratory.

Fully bilingual, Mariela, a native of Uruguay, is proud to offer  her services in both English and Spanish.
