Mariela Murdocco emmigrated from Uruguay to New York in 1997 and shortly thereafter embarked on a career which encompasses so many of the things that she loves: the beauty, the intensity and the power of photography.
Her portfolio includes portraiture, headshots, photojournalism and nature. She is praised for capturing the humanity and character of children and adults alike. Her ability to find that authentic look and personality of the subject has led to demanding work in the performing arts. Having been a dancer and fashion model herself when she was living in Uruguay, this has given her the ability to understand what is like to be on the other side of the camera and what people are looking for.
Although she uses many different lighting techniques, she insists that “there is nothing better than natural light, in a natural surrounding. My goal is to capture the essence and to bring out that fleeting truth in her subjects, the beauty from the inside, thus creating a timeless and unique portrait.”
Photo sessions with Mariela are fun, her clients feel comfortable and confident. “Even though it may sound obvious, photography is about the relationship between the person behind the camera and the subject.” Her good sense of composition and ability to engage with the clients, make the photo shoot experience an enjoyable one, while achieving always more than satisfactory results.
Mariela started working in earnest as a photographer in 2000. She has documented all manner of public and private events, artist portfolios, interior design and even commercial work for advertising. In 2002 Mariela started work as a photojournalist and writer for magazines and newspapers in Hispanic media, as a local, national and international correspondent/journalist/photographer. Similarly, photography has led her to write about her subjects – contributing to an ascending career in journalism where she has photographed and interviewed many elected officials and celebrities.
